Big Impact Expected From E-Signature Act

Monday, August 14th, 2000 Technology

Seeing a potential breakthrough in improving the speed of daily business transactions, electronic signature software producers are giving a thumbs-up to the passing of the U.S. Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act, also called the E-Sign Act. "With the passing of E-Sign, consumers will soon be able to apply for coverage, file claims and process renewals electronically, using their e-signature. Consumers will no longer need to submit a hard copy of documents to administer their accounts," said Tommy Petrogiannis, president of Montreal-based Silanis Technology Inc., an e-signature application provider with offices in Washington. The company, under its online venture, onsign.com, recently introduced a downloadable consumer software package that allows users to electronically sign Microsoft Word and Outlook documents, according to company representative Andrea Simmons.
