Brochures Help Prepare for Hurricanes and Floods
Wednesday, May 31st, 2000 Catastrophe PropertySeveral experts, including officials at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, have predicted a rough hurricane season with an above average number of storms and at least three severe hurricanes. To help people prepare for these weather emergencies, the MetLife Consumer Education Center has created two free brochures -- ``Preparing for Hurricanes' and ``Preparing for Floods.' Based on information from the National Weather Service, FEMA and the American Red Cross, ``Preparing for Hurricanes' encourages advanced evacuation planning, including bringing non-secured materials inside and purchasing the items needed to protect your home. The brochure also suggests taking a complete inventory of your property in case you must file an insurance claim. In addition, ``Preparing for Hurricanes' recommends reading and understanding your insurance policy before a hurricane hits.
