Brooklyn Man Charged with Insurance Fraud After Allegedly Staging Car Crash Caught on Viral Dash Cam Video

A Brooklyn man has been charged in a suspected car crash staging incident on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn, New York. The alleged scheme, which included sudden braking and a reverse maneuver into another driver’s vehicle, was captured on dash cam footage that went viral. Authorities report that the defendant, along with others, staged the accident by cutting off the victim’s car, forcing it to stop, and then backing into it. Following the collision, multiple occupants exited the suspect’s car, and an apparent tarp was used to obscure view into the vehicle’s interior as they allegedly switched seats, complicating identification efforts.

The defendant was arraigned on charges including staging a motor vehicle accident, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, conspiracy, and insurance fraud, with potential sentencing of up to seven years if convicted. Investigators report that a red Kia also followed the victim’s car and stopped at the crash scene, where one of the Honda’s passengers exited and joined the Kia before it left the scene. Prosecutors believe that additional individuals may be involved, and they urge anyone who suspects they may have been targeted in a similar scheme to contact the authorities.
