The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has announced plans to reorganize the department’s structure in an effort to strengthen its effectiveness. "This reorganization realigns our resources and functions around proven strategies that will produce the best results in reducing workplace injuries and illnesses, "said John L. Henshaw, assistant secretary of labor for occupational safety and health.

In addition to the creation of an Office of Small Business, the plan features a new compliance assistance organization, the Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs. The directorate formalizes OSHA’s efforts to expand compliance programs, training, outreach, and education programs.
