Cargo Ship Lost In Bermuda Triangle During Hurricane Joaquin

Monday, October 5th, 2015 Marine

A life ring belonging to a cargo ship that vanished with 28 American and five Polish crew members aboard was spotted adrift by searchers Saturday afternoon. The flotsam was first discovered by crewmembers of a U.S. Coast Guard C-130 aircraft and later confirmed as the El Faro’s gear by a helicopter crew. The El Faro disappeared early Thursday during a trek through Hurricane Joaquin’s eye as it spun through the Bermuda Triangle. A 7:30 a.m. distress call placed the 735-foot-long ship 35 miles off Crooked Island during its journey from Jacksonville, Fla., to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
