Children At Risk In Accidents
Tuesday, June 26th, 2001 Auto LiabilityThough many parents would not consider their children to be "forgotten," statistics show that children are indeed the forgotten ones when it comes to auto passenger safety. Approximately 500 children between the ages of 5 and 9 die each year in auto accidents. Statistics from the Advocates for Highway Safety, a nonprofit highway safety group, and the Child Passenger Safety Study, a joint venture among State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co., the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia, and the University of Pennsylvania, show that children under the age of 10 are most susceptible to injury in an auto accident because they are wearing adult seat belts when they should in fact still be in child safety seats.
