A Connecticut man has been arrested in connection with a scheme to fraudulently obtain Apple iPhones through insurance claims. Detectives from the Statewide Organized Crime Investigative Task Force (SOCITF), in collaboration with the New Haven Police Department, launched an investigation after receiving complaints from Asurion Insurance Services about a suspected fraud ring. The investigation uncovered a pattern of fraudulent claims used to secure replacement iPhones.
Authorities executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in November 2024, discovering multiple Apple iPhones linked to the scheme. Evidence suggested that the suspect orchestrated the fraud by using mules to open accounts with various wireless carriers and file false claims, ultimately leading to over $50,000 in losses.
Following the investigation, an arrest warrant was approved, and the suspect was taken into custody on January 30, 2025. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, and insurance fraud. The suspect was held on a $75,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains active.
