Delta Air Lines is offering $30,000 to each of the 76 passengers who were aboard Flight 4819 when it crash-landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The CRJ-900 aircraft, arriving from Minneapolis, burst into flames and flipped upside down upon landing. While all four crew members and passengers survived, 21 people sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to local hospitals. As of Thursday, all injured passengers had been released.
Weather conditions were clear at the time of the incident, though wind gusts of up to 40 mph were reported. The airport had recently experienced heavy snowfall, but there was no snow on the runway during the crash. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the accident, and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada is leading the investigation with assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board.
Delta emphasized that the $30,000 offer comes with "no strings attached" and does not affect passengers’ legal rights. The airline is continuing to provide support to those affected, and CEO Ed Bastian expressed gratitude for the medical teams who assisted the injured passengers.
