Dump Truck Driver Dies From Collision With Amtrak Train

The dump truck driver who was killed in a collision with an Amtrak train in Bessemer on Friday afternoon has been identified. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office says David Wayne Hatcher, 68, of Ashville, Alabama died in the collision just before 2 p.m. at the crossing at Carolina Avenue and 32nd Street. The train was carrying 124 passengers, many of them LSU fans heading from Louisiana to Alabama for the LSU-Alabama game on Saturday. None of the train’s passengers were injured in the collision, according to Amtrak spokesperson Kimberly Woods.
