During trying times for tornado victims across the Northern Illinois region, a couple organizations are trying to warn residents about scams. The Home Builder Association and Better Business Bureau urge people to watch out for unreliable contractors who are looking to make a quick buck. BBB is calling those scammers "storm chasers," those who follow severe weather preying on victims. Experts recommend not signing a contract or paying a repairman who shows up on your doorstep. Also, make sure any contractor you work with is bonded and insured. But, you may also need to check up on reputable repairmen.
