Insurance claims from Hurricanes Helene and Milton have surged to $4.775 billion across Florida, with a $169 million increase in just the past week, according to the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR). The state’s Catastrophic Claims Data and Reporting website, which tracks storm-related insurance activity, has recorded these recent figures after both hurricanes left widespread destruction. Hurricane Milton, which caused severe damage throughout the state after crossing from the Gulf Coast to the Atlantic, accounts for $3.038 billion in insured losses alone, with over 283,000 insurance claims filed statewide.
Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend area before heading northward, has seen its estimated damage claims rise to $1.737 billion, with over 133,000 claims filed by Florida residents. Of these, nearly 60,000 are for residential properties, and close to 4,000 relate to commercial property damage.
The OIR continues to monitor and compile reports through its Insurance Regulation Filing System, providing real-time updates on insured loss estimates. As recovery efforts continue, residents and businesses are actively filing claims to address both residential and commercial property damage from the storms, highlighting the ongoing impact of this active hurricane season in Florida.
