A former Connecticut-based insurance agent, now residing in New Hampshire, has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged multi-state life insurance fraud scheme totaling over $250,000. The investigation, led by the Statewide Organized Crime Investigative Task Force, began after a referral from the Connecticut Insurance Department and spanned several years, dating back to 2020.
Authorities claim the individual convinced victims to invest in fictitious financial products, including non-existent or lapsed life insurance policies. According to arrest warrants, the suspect used fake identities, forged legal documents, and impersonated attorneys and regulators to further the scheme. The alleged victims include former clients, friends, family members, and a person facing foreclosure. In one instance, investigators say $36,000 in stolen funds were used to pay for a wedding.
The scheme came to light after multiple bounced checks raised red flags. Investigators later uncovered fake check templates on the suspect’s laptop, as well as evidence of unauthorized withdrawals and stolen IRS refund checks. Charges filed include multiple counts of larceny, forgery, issuing bad checks, and criminal impersonation.
The accused was released on a $335,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 7. Authorities believe more victims may be involved and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
