Hurricane Center May Run Out Of Names
Tuesday, September 20th, 2005 Catastrophe PropertyBefore the 2005 hurricane season is done, you might read about Hurricane Alpha. The reason you may hear that name is because each year, 21 common names are reserved for Atlantic Basin hurricanes, with the list arranged alphabetically and skipping certain letters. Rita is now the 17th named storm in the Atlantic Basin this year and as to date, there are only four names left on the list. The spokesman for the National Hurricane Center said that if Wilma, the last name on the list develops, they will then go the Greek alphabet for any other storms that may arise.
