Improve Your Letter Writing Skills

At a recent claims conference in Florida, the welcoming letter to each participant stressed the “new environment” that each claims person operates within—including ever more demanding and sophisticated claimants. A renewed emphasis on writing skills training, while not a panacea for the ills of claims professionals, can help meet some of the challenges of this new environment by helping foster better relationships within the claims environment. Here’s how improved correspondence can counter some of the toughest issues in claims handling: Threat of Litigation. We live in an age of sophisticated customers. Claimants who receive murky or dismissive form letters may feel slighted by a letter’s tone, and will make sure that their next call is to their attorney.
