Insurers Win Big in Final E-Signature Bill

The American Insurance Association hailed the final electronic signature legislation agreement struck today among House and Senate conference committee negotiators. The agreement is now expected to pass easily in both the House and Senate before being sent to President Clinton for his signature. "More than anything Congress does this year, this bill will enable insurers and their customers to take greater advantage of electronic commerce," John Savercool, vice president of federal affairs at AIA, said. "This legislation will significantly enhance the insurance industry‘s ability to move transactions to the online world." Savercool said the AIA strongly supports the bill.
