Internet..Friend or Foe?
Monday, July 30th, 2001 TechnologyMore than the Rock of Gibraltar, a good neighbor, or a pair of good hands, there has been one enduring symbol for the insurance industry: the insurance agent. Until the Internet came around, you didn‘t go to the insurance company when you wanted a policy. You called an agent who took care of everything; they were there to do it all for you. Heck, some of them didn‘t even trust the U.S. Postal Service with your premiums, and would come to the house to collect it in person. Times have changed. A lot. Agents are still in the front lines for most insurers, but their duties have evolved over the years. Their time is now better spent being a salesperson, not an administrator.
