Investigating Toxic Exposure Claims

Dateline, 20/20, and 60 Minutes are filled with investigative reports about the hazards of chemicals in household and workplace products: “The Deadly Dust,” “The Silent Killer,” “Invisible Killers,” “Nowhere to Hide.” The stories seem designed to convince us that our homes are making us sick, our drinking water is contaminated with dangerous chemicals, and the air we breathe is hazardous to our health. These claims may arise from incidents at home or at work. Common scenarios include people who all65 egedly become ill after pesticides are applied at home or at work, and people who are exposed to toxic substances on the job, usually as a result of a workplace accident, poor training, or some other misuse.
