Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced the Grand Jury for Prince George’s County has indicted a 38-year-old woman from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, on multiple felony charges. The woman faces two counts of felony insurance fraud, one count of theft of property valued at $25,000 or more, and one count of attempted theft of property valued at $100,000 or more. Allegedly, she submitted fraudulent insurance claims under her renter’s policy with USAA in December 2020 and November 2022, falsely claiming water damage from a broken pipe in her home.

The 2020 claim resulted in a payout of $58,373. However, the 2022 claim, which sought $124,034, was denied after USAA discovered discrepancies. The investigation revealed that no broken pipes or water damage were reported to her landlord, and the submitted invoices, receipts, and photos were falsified.

An initial appearance in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County is scheduled for July 26, 2024. It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
