Mississippi: Commissioner Appears To ‘Clarify’ Position On Flood Payouts; NAMIC Comments
Thursday, September 15th, 2005 Catastrophe PropertyAccording to reports in the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, Mississippi Insurance Commisoner George Dale told lawmakers that the state should not force insurance companies to cover flood damage caused by Hurricane Katrina if homeowners did not have flood insurance. Homeowners needed federal flood insurance, but only 21,600 residents in the three coastal counties purchased those policies before the hurricane. Those not covered by flood insurance can call the Federal Emergency Management Agency to register for assistance.
