Mold Can Be a Serious Health Threat after Storms and Flooding

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007 Catastrophe Property

State and federal emergency management officials warn Oklahomans whose homes or businesses were flooded as a result of recent storms, flooding and tornadoes, to be alert to possible health problems from mold. Water-damaged homes create a moist environment for mold to flourish. People with respiratory problems like allergies or asthma, should not spend time in houses suspected to contain mold. Mold is often visible as a fuzzy growth or discoloration on surfaces. It usually has a musty, earthy odor.
