Tuesday, October 2nd, 2001 CatastropheThe National Association of Insurance Commissioners said two newly formed ad hoc working groups will focus on market conduct, claims payment and legal issues resulting from the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the U.S. The National Claims Handling Protocol Ad Hoc Group, chaired by Maryland Insurance Commissioner Steve Larsen, will look into claims resulting from the disasters. The NAIC said Mr. Larsen's group is currently identifying the different issues that may arise in the coming weeks and developing logical, efficient solutions to those issues. The members are also reportedly mobilizing support staff from other states to assist the New York, Connecticut and New Jersey insurance-regulation offices in the event of a flood of consumer complaints or inquiries.
