NAMIC: 'Frivolous Litigation' Related to Terrorist Attacks
Monday, October 1st, 2001 Catastrophe LitigationThe National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies said that in suggesting Congress limit "frivolous" lawsuits related to the terrorist attacks in the U.S. it meant those based on fraudulent or meritless claims. NAMIC said it was not referring to legitimate claims from those who suffered from the Sept. 11 events. The Indianapolis-based group last week asked the U.S. House Financial Services Committee to assure the victims' families of an expedited compensation process free from "frivolous litigation." According to NAMIC, this would be a way to "improve the immediate and near-term environment for policyholders and the insurance industry" and to respond to future terrorist attacks.
