A North Carolina insurance agent, Lori Ann Crisp of Kannapolis, is facing criminal charges, including embezzlement, forgery, and obtaining property by false pretenses. According to the North Carolina Department of Insurance, Crisp allegedly accepted nearly $3,000 in premium payments from clients in late 2023 through 2024 but failed to secure policies on their behalf. Following these charges, Crisp has surrendered her insurance producer license, effective later this month.
This incident marks the latest in a series of regulatory actions against Crisp, who has a history of infractions dating back over two decades. In 2002, Crisp voluntarily gave up an automobile insurance agent license. Later, in 2006, she agreed to pay a penalty to resolve an unpaid judgment linked to unauthorized insurance activity in North Carolina. Although she regained a producer license in 2022, she had no active appointments at the time of her recent charges.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey emphasized that crimes like these financially impact consumers through higher premiums. The state’s investigation into Crisp’s activities remains ongoing, with further developments possible as authorities review her previous affiliations and activities.
