Mickey, the pit bull that mauled a 4-year-old Phoenix boy, will spend the rest of his days in the Maricopa County sheriff’s no-kill animal shelter following a court hearing Tuesday morning, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office. Phoenix Municipal Court Judge Deborah Griffith spared Mickey’s life last month when she ruled that the dog be defanged, neutered and sent to an animal-rehabilitation facility for the rest of the animal’s life. Sentenced to life this will be Mickey ’s new home at the MCSO’s MASH Unit. On Tuesday, Griffith ruled that Sheriff Joe Arpaio could take custody of the dog and house him in the MASH Unit, a no-kill shelter the Sheriff’s Office operates out of an abandoned Maricopa County jail, according to the agency.
