Police Officer Sues Town Over Settlement Lien

Thursday, November 6th, 2014 Liability Litigation Workers' Compensation

Police Officer Samuel Riley filed a lawsuit against the town last week, asking a judge to decide how much money the town is entitled to from a $100,000 settlement Riley received after an on-the-job crash. The lawsuit, filed by attorney Jonathan Levy, stems from a Jan. 30, 2013, accident Riley was involved in while responding to a call. Riley was driving a police motorcycle westbound on Royal Palm Way, approaching Cocoanut Row, when he hit the back of a stopped car. Riley, a 16-year employee, hurt his right arm, right shoulder and right hand in the crash.
