RAND Study Finds That Asbestos Claimants See Less Than 50 Percent Of Costs
Thursday, May 12th, 2005 LiabilityOver 730,000 insurance claims for asbestos-related injuries were filed between the early 1970’s and 2002 costing businesses and insurance companies over $70 billion dollars. According to information provided by the Rand Corporation, claimants received about 42 cents out of every dollar spent on asbestos litigation. The 58 cents went to the defense cost which averaged about 31 cents, and the remaining 27 cents went to the plaintiff’s because of economic loss.
