Texas Wildfires - Taming the Wild Cat: Insurance companies to treat wildfires as ‘catastrophe’

Insurance companies are just waiting for the wildfires to be extinguished so they can get in and assess the damage to their customers’ property, a spokesman for the Insurance Council of Texas said. Mark Hanna said Thursday that companies are treating the widespread wildfires as they would a natural disaster. "The way the claims are already coming in, we’re already treating this like a weather catastrophe, like a hurricane," he said. "The wildfires are ravaging a huge area of the state, all the way from Marfa to Amarillo and hundreds of miles east of there.
