Trampling Privacy Rights
Monday, July 5th, 1999 Legislation & Regulation Risk ManagementThe right to privacy is something most of us take for granted, even though individuals may define it differently and hold conflicting opinions on how much it needs to be protected versus the public good. A consumer worries about protecting medical and financial information, while insurers, for instance, might be more focused on protecting business plans or ensuring the privacy of self-critical analyses. Of late, the issue is becoming a political football. The danger is that when the dust clears the consumer will end up being the victim of a particularly vicious scrimmage. This cannot be allowed to happen, regardless of whose business interests might be upset.
