Travelers Accused Of Fraud, Bad Faith In Seminal Suit

Wednesday, May 18th, 2016 Auto Liability Litigation Risk Management

A federal jury trial started Monday in a case in which one of the nation’s largest insurers is accused of fraud, deceit and acting in bad faith. Charter Oak Fire Insurance, which is owned by Travelers, is accused of failing to disclose the existence of a $1 million insurance policy to the lawyers and victim of an automobile accident. The plaintiff in the case, Laura Dziadek from Sioux Falls, argues that Travelers intentionally tried to hide the policy. The case could have far-reaching consequences beyond just Dziadek, however.
