Tropical Storm Zeta Finally Falls Apart In Open Atlantic

Monday, January 9th, 2006 Catastrophe Property

Tropical Storm Zeta fell apart Friday in the open Atlantic, finally bringing the record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season to an end more than a month after it was officially over. At 4 p.m. ET, Zeta was rapidly losing the characteristics of a tropical system as it encountered strong wind shear and dry air. It was just a remnant low-pressure system with winds near 30 mph, centered about 900 miles east-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands.
