Video Trumps the Digital Still

Friday, October 15th, 1999 Technology

Over the last year, I've had the good fortune to write a sidebar about nighttime visibility studies in Claims magazine's digital imaging issue [October 1998, p. 65] and to speak about digital imaging to a variety of regional claims associations. As an offshoot of those experiences, I've often been asked to recommend "the best" digital camera for adjuster field use and also to comment on the admissibility of digital images in court. The short answer regarding both of those issues, in my opinion, revolves around the recent advent of digital video. First of all, regarding digital images in claim files, they are simply here to stay. Adjusters would be advised to get used to them now. Whether or not digital images are ultimately admissible in court is going to require a challenge to them and a subsequent successful defense to that challenge.
