Coventry Releases Annual Workers’ Compensation Drug Trends Series

Since 2009 Coventry has been producing our annual First Script® Drug Trends Analysis and this year is no exception. In Part One of our series we evaluate retail and mail-order prescriptions. Following several years of declining trends in pharmacy volume and costs, part one of this year's drug trends series illustrates the slight upward shift in retail and mail-order channels.Some highlights from the series include: • Prescription utilization and cost per claim increased slightly in 2019, with utilization up 0.8% and cost up 1.0% • Opioid usage continues to decline • Average MED experienced year-over-year decreases of at least 5% for the 4th consecutive year Each part in the series will be accompanied by an ongoing deeper dive into various related topics to address the specific trends highlighted in each infographic.
