Insurance claims adjusters have flocked to tornado-ravaged states where homes and businesses were destroyed, such as Joplin, Mo., where a huge storm leveled a path through the city on Sunday. Property-casualty insurers such as The Travelers Cos. and The Hartford Financial Services Group have sent claims adjusters to various sites, from Minnesota to Alabama. This year is already the second deadliest tornado season on record, with 425 fatalities as of Monday, according to the Insurance Information Institute, a property-casualty trade group.
