A teenage driver was injured Monday night when his vehicle hit a camel crossing a road in Sardis City in Etowah County.
The camel was euthanized this morning as a result of his injuries, according to Sardis City Police Chief James Harp. The incident happened about 7:30 p.m. on Bryant Drive. According to Harp, the camel was being housed at Turk’s Bama Bucks, a deer breeding facility and wildlife refuge. The owner, Terry Turk, was leading the camel across the road with a halter at the time of the accident, which occurred on a stretch of road that is not well-lighted.
