BlendJet is recalling approximately 4.8 million of its BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders in the U.S., along with about 117,000 in Canada, due to risks of laceration and fire hazards. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has reported multiple incidents involving these blenders, including cases of blades breaking during use, overheating, and catching fire. To date, there have been 329 reports of blades breaking, 17 incidents of overheating or fires causing around $150,000 in property damage, and 50 reports of injuries comprising minor burns and a laceration.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled blenders and contact BlendJet for a free base unit replacement. To obtain the replacement, customers must cut up the blender’s rubber seal and provide photographic evidence via BlendJet’s website. The recall affects BlendJet 2 blenders sold between October 2020 and November 2023 at various retailers, including Costco, Walmart, and Target.

BlendJet stated that the recall impacts older BlendJet 2 models and that the current models for sale have been updated with thicker blades and an improved electrical configuration. Blenders with serial numbers starting with ‘5543’ or higher are not included in the recall. Consumers can verify if their blender is affected by checking the product information on BlendJet’s website or contacting the company.
