Tuesday, February 12th, 2002 Auto Catastrophe Legislation & Regulation Liability Property

The US has agreed to open its borders to Mexican trucks in mid-May, subject to conditions outlined in legislation recently passed by the House of Representatives. The compromise addresses the safety concerns voiced by insurers, according to the National Association of Independent Insurers. “Our primary concern has always been that an adequate number of safety inspectors be trained and in place at borders to insure the safety of Americans on our highways,” said David Golden, commercial lines director for the NAII. “The border will open in phases as staff and facilities are put in place.”
