Emily storms the eastern Caribbean

Watches and warnings went up across the eastern Caribbean early Tuesday as Topical Storm Emily churned through the region, the National Hurricane Center said. At 5 a.m. ET, Emily had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph), according to the center. It was located about 245 miles (390 km) southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The storm was charging to the west at 16 mph (26 kph) and was expected to gradually strengthen over the next two days, the forecast said.
