The Claims and Litigation Management (CLM) Alliance has long been at the forefront of discussions between insurance carriers and defense law firms. Recognizing the evolving challenges in litigation management, CLM launched its Litigation Management Task Force at the 2024 Annual Conference. The task force is guided by key principles, including fostering trusted partnerships, aligning costs with outcomes, combating Nuclear Verdicts, and prioritizing talent development.
One of the most pressing issues identified is cost management. The Cost Management Strategies Subcommittee, led by Rusty Goudelock of McAngus Goudelock & Courie, LLC, and Dana Applegate of Coaction Specialty Insurance, has moved quickly to address concerns such as litigation guidelines, billing processes, and fee structures. Their goal is to shift the focus back to managing litigation effectively rather than just controlling costs.
With regular meetings planned throughout 2025, the task force aims to create actionable strategies that benefit both carriers and defense firms. The discussions have already begun, and a progress report is expected at the CLM Annual Conference in April. As the industry continues to evolve, collaboration between all stakeholders will be crucial in shaping the future of litigation management.
