Much Ado About Process

Wednesday, December 15th, 1999 Risk Management Technology

Insurance company execs are all talking about the Internet. They know it’s important (watch any television commercial these days) and they know their companies need to start using it. "E-commerce" is the buzzword of the industry, as everyone has watched the spread of online shopping. But business leaders also know the downside. For instance, last Christmas was a dog for many online retailers who lost significant sales because of downtime and slow response. If you’re going to do the Internet, you have to do it right or risk an "eBay event." Insurance companies are notoriously slow to adopt the Internet, and they are treading carefully. If they’re going to do it, the execs know they have to do it right. And that costs time and money.
