In North Carolina, a mother and son duo are scheduled for trial on allegations of defrauding over $20,600. This case comes after similar accusations were made against them last year for a scheme that reportedly swindled more than $47,100 across various counties. The state Department of Insurance launched the investigation following reports that the son, a roofing contractor, promised home repairs contingent upon homeowners signing contracts with his mother, a public adjuster.

Their legal issues are compounded by previous charges over the last two years, as noted by the state Insurance Commissioner. The public adjuster’s license held by the mother expired last month, which may impact the proceedings. In a separate but related case, another individual from Wilson County was charged with insurance fraud after giving false information about a car accident that resulted in a fatality.

These cases highlight persistent issues of insurance fraud in North Carolina, leading to increased scrutiny and calls for more stringent regulatory measures in the insurance sector.
