An administrative assistant at an Adams County dental office confessed to stealing more than $35,000 and forging insurance claims, as per court documents. The employee faces 12 felony charges, including forgery, unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and insurance fraud.
The assistant, who worked at Brent Guise Family Dentistry in Gettysburg, was responsible for managing accounts receivable and deposits. Police were called to the office on February 20, 2024, for a fraud report, revealing that the employee had deposited checks meant for the office into a personal account. The assistant also made fraudulent insurance claims for procedures that were never performed, keeping the insurance checks personally.
Further investigation showed that the assistant would write off cash payments for procedures to entice patients to pay in cash, which was then stolen. A search warrant for the assistant’s bank accounts on May 7, 2024, confirmed these actions, supported by surveillance footage.
During a police interview on May 27, the assistant admitted to the theft, explaining that the stolen money funded a gambling addiction. The total estimated loss for the dentist’s office was $35,644.
