Remember when the tools of the trade for adjusting insurance claims involved an instant camera, a voice recorder, a calculator and estimating sheets? In the days before personal computers and email, when there were no mobile phones, if you wanted to make a call you dropped a dime into a pay phone, then hoped someone on the other end would pick up. “Adjuster notes” were hand-written. Changing reserves meant filling out a form in triplicate and waiting days for processing. There were no smartphones, Internet connections or wearables. The most futuristic things in our collective consciousness were a time-traveling DeLorean and reruns of The Jetsons.
