Smokers more likely to die in car crashes, insurer claims show

The proportion of smokers under the age of 35 who died in motor vehicle accidents was significantly higher than the proportion of non-smokers who were killed for the same reason, life insurer Liberty’s 2013 retail claims figures reveal. Motor vehicle accidents were one of the leading causes of death among policyholders under the age of 35, but accounted for 20% more deaths in smokers compared with non-smokers.
