Powerful storms have once again battered Texas, leaving over 750,000 customers without power, with the majority of outages in Dallas County. The Dallas-Fort Worth metro area experienced hurricane-force wind gusts early Tuesday morning, reaching up to 77 mph at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. This severe weather follows a series of destructive and deadly storms that have plagued the region in recent weeks.
The National Weather Service has warned that more storms are expected to hit Texas and extreme western Louisiana throughout the day. The primary threats include large hail, lightning, and wind gusts up to 80 mph, with a possibility of tornadoes. This relentless weather pattern comes as communities are still recovering from previous storms that caused significant casualties and damage, particularly over the Memorial Day weekend.
In addition to the storms, parts of Texas are also facing sweltering heat, with heat indices reaching triple digits. Heat advisories are in effect for regions such as Brewster County and the Davis Mountains, where temperatures could soar up to 110 degrees. This extreme heat is exacerbating the challenges for Texans already dealing with storm damage and power outages.
