Although Hurricane Milton made landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast near Sarasota, it brought unexpected destruction to southeastern Florida as dozens of tornadoes swept through the region. Tony Brazzale, a longtime resident of Wellington, witnessed one of these tornadoes rip through his property, causing extensive damage to his home.
In Spanish Lakes Country Club Village, further north, another tornado claimed at least six lives. Meteorologists are currently reviewing data to confirm the exact number of tornadoes spawned by the storm, with preliminary reports indicating as many as 38 tornadoes across the state.
These twisters came despite the fact that the hurricane’s center had no direct impact on southeastern Florida. The National Weather Service issued 126 tornado warnings, underscoring the unpredictable nature of hurricanes and their capacity to produce severe weather far from their main landfall.
