Toyota has issued a recall for about 380,000 trucks within the United States, targeting the 2022 and 2023 model year Tacoma vehicles. The concern revolves around an axle issue where axle shaft separation might occur, posing a risk to vehicle stability and braking efficiency. The root of the problem is attributed to debris that interferes with the secure fastening of components, as outlined in a report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

To address the issue, Toyota dealers are set to inspect the rear axle assembly of affected vehicles, ensuring the axle retaining nuts are properly tightened. If any damage is discovered during these inspections, necessary repairs or replacements will be conducted. Despite the recall, Toyota has confirmed there have been no warranty claims or reported incidents stemming from this defect.

The investigation into this matter began in late October after discovering a fault involving an axle housing. Further inquiry revealed discrepancies in the inspection processes of a supplier tasked with examining completed axle assemblies. This recall is one of several recent actions by Toyota in the U.S., which includes a recall of 280,000 vehicles across different models due to issues causing unexpected vehicle movement when in neutral.
