Experian’s 2025 Fraud Forecast Warns of Rising AI-Powered Threats

Wednesday, January 29th, 2025 Fraud Insurance Industry Risk Management Technology

Experian’s 2025 Future of Fraud Forecast identifies five major fraud threats businesses and consumers should prepare for in the coming year. As cybercriminals become more sophisticated, leveraging artificial intelligence and automation, companies must adopt proactive security measures to mitigate risks.

One major concern is the rise of GenAI-driven bot attacks, particularly Gen4 bots, which mimic human behavior to bypass security systems. Similarly, password spraying attacks—where AI-generated bots test common passwords at scale—are expected to increase, particularly targeting healthcare companies. Social media-fueled fraud is also a growing issue, as viral trends encourage users to unknowingly participate in financial scams, such as check fraud.

Additionally, cryptocurrency scams are expected to surge as Bitcoin and other digital currencies gain value, with fraudsters using fake investment schemes to lure victims. Pig butchering scams, where criminals build trust over time before executing large-scale financial fraud, will also become more advanced and harder to detect.

To combat these threats, businesses must invest in multi-layered fraud prevention strategies that leverage behavioral analytics, AI-driven threat detection, and consumer education.
