Limp Bizkit Sues Universal Music for $200 Million Over Alleged Unpaid Royalties

Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Group, the world’s largest record company, claiming the band was cheated out of millions in royalties. The suit, filed in a Los Angeles federal court, seeks over $200 million in damages and the return of copyrights. Durst alleges that despite Limp Bizkit’s massive success, selling over 45 million records and generating nearly 800 million streams in 2024, he has never received royalties from Universal.

The lawsuit further claims Universal failed to provide royalty statements, blaming the situation on unrecouped advances and software errors, while Flip Records profited from a partnership with the label. Durst’s team discovered over $1 million in unpaid earnings, and they argue Universal Music intentionally withheld payments to Durst and other artists.

The lawsuit also indicates that Universal may have followed similar practices with other artists, furthering the financial damages. As of now, Universal has not commented on the claims.
