Organizations Expand RMIS Use Beyond Claims to Boost Strategic Risk Management

Monday, May 5th, 2025 Insurance Industry Risk Management Technology

A new report from Redhand Advisors reveals that while claims management remains the primary function of Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS), organizations are increasingly using these platforms for broader strategic purposes. According to the 2025 RMIS Report Technology Survey, 82% of users still rely on RMIS for claims, but functions like incident management, policy tracking, and insurance renewals are seeing notable growth. This trend reflects a shift from purely transactional tools to systems that support enterprise-wide decision-making.

The survey also highlights the growing interest in artificial intelligence (AI) and automation among risk professionals, despite persistent challenges such as high implementation costs, integration hurdles, and limited customization. While generative AI adoption remains in early stages—only 1% of respondents report full implementation—many organizations are actively exploring its potential through pilots and partial rollouts.

Vendors are responding by enhancing RMIS features, improving user interfaces, and adding advanced analytics, mobile access, and data visualization tools. Still, hurdles such as data quality issues, employee resistance, and unclear ROI complicate adoption. However, organizations that successfully implement RMIS platforms report strong outcomes: improved data accuracy, faster decision-making, and greater operational efficiency.

To maximize RMIS value, Redhand Advisors recommends prioritizing centralized data systems, scalable cloud-based solutions, user training, and deeper integration with core business applications. With a focus on strategic alignment and real-time insights, RMIS platforms are poised to play a more central role in risk management transformation.
