State Farm, in collaboration with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), has awarded $1 million in grants to support 100 volunteer fire departments across the United States. Each selected department will receive $10,000 through the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program, designed to help volunteer fire departments that often operate on tight budgets and struggle to acquire essential resources. The funding will enable these departments to enhance their preparedness for emergencies such as fires, vehicle accidents, hazardous material incidents, and natural disasters.

In addition to the financial grants, the partnership includes offering NVFC memberships to the departments, providing them access to vital resources. These resources include free training opportunities, a First Responder Helpline for mental health support, and other tools to improve the effectiveness and safety of their operations. Steve Hirsch, chair of the NVFC, highlighted the significant impact this support will have on departments that frequently operate with minimal funding.

State Farm’s commitment to this initiative reflects its broader corporate mission to help build safer and stronger communities. According to Apsara Sorensen, State Farm’s corporate responsibility assistant vice president, supporting volunteer firefighters—who risk their lives daily to protect their communities—aligns with the company’s goal of managing everyday risks and fostering community resilience. The program aims to ensure that volunteer fire departments are better equipped to serve their communities and protect the lives of both responders and residents.
